I ACTUALLY HAD A CHANCE TO SIT DOWN AND TALK WITH CAROLINA ARTIST “GUTTA” AND DO AN EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW WITH HIM FOR CAROLINAGIRL.ORG. HERE U WILL FIND OUT MORE ABOUT HIM AND WHERE THE NAME “GET GUTTA” COMES FROM…
CAROLINAGIRL: FIRST GUTTA I WANT TO THANK YOU FOR ALLOWING ME TO SIT DOWN AND SPEAK WITH YOU AND GIVE THE WORLD A BETTER LOOK AS TO WHO “GUTTA” IS.
HOW U GET THE NAME “GUTTA”?
GUTTA: I previously went by the name Shaw aka “Shawrue”. In 2002 there was an attempted armed robbery and carjacking on me. Though they didn’t get anything, I felt violated that someone would try to rob me in my own neighborhood, which I grew up in. I really felt like it was someone I knew. I ended up making a song about it called “Ni%$z Move In Silence”. When the beat dropped I just started chanting 2 Gutta, 2 real. That’s where it originated from. Gutta was my negative side. Almost like Dr. Jekyl and Mr. Hyde. In 2009, I really started realizing the impact Hip Hop was having on the youth and the negative direction it was going and came to the realization that I was helping to destroy my community. At that point, I had really branded the “Gutta” name so I really didn’t want to change it. I asked my mom if she could think of an acronym that could explain “Gutta” in a positive light and the first thing out her mouth was “Greater Understanding Through The Almighty”. I thought it was perfect. I had changed my life and my music. I was no longer promoting negative things but promoting positive things. So I changed my name to “Get Gutta”.
CAROLINAGIRL: How often are you in the studio?
GUTTA: I just finished an album so at the moment I’m spending a little less time. Usually I spend 12 to 15 hours in the studio in a two week period. I do a lot of pre-production in my home studio then I travel 100 miles to the main studio to complete my projects.
CAROLINAGIRL: Who are some of your influences?
GUTTA: Scarface, 2 Pac, OutKast, Goodie Mob, and of course all the pioneers who pave the way such as Rakim, LL Cool J, Run DMC, Public Enemy and more.
GUTTA: Scarface. He was the first artist that I heard that kept it gangsta and God at the same time.
CAROLINAGIRL: What projects do you have coming out if any?
GUTTA: My new album “#imjustsayin” is coming soon. No release date has been set yet. Possibly the album will release Fall 2012.
CAROLINAGIRL: How can we stay up to date with your music, shows, etc?
CAROLINAGIRL:If the world could only remember you with one quote what would it be?
GUTTA: “Get Gutta…to understand me and what I do, first you have to understand HIM.”
CAROLINAGIRL: Any shout out’s you would like to give?
GUTTA: God Almighty, my biggest fan, supporter, encourager, my rock, Mrs. Shawn T. My producers D2E, Chosen Fingers, and Russell Rockwell. My videographer Vizual Mekaniks. My closest family and friends. The homie Lo-Key for being real when it comes to the love of Hip Hop. All my fans who rocking the Gutta Tees and following my movement.
